I'm working on a big well-researched op-ed at the moment

Any tips for giving it the best chance to be read by more than 12 people? That might make it seem a little more worth my while. I mean I'm going to post it anyway, because it's something I think is really important for our community to think about: whether electric cars should be embraced by petrol heads. Spoiler alert, I'm pro high voltage.

I'd just like to post it at a time and with a title and first paragraph that might help more people get a chance to click. Edit: oh, also, how many words are Oppo's actually willing to read. I can get very carried and away and long winded... Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Oppo, here's the Drayson B12 EV prototype for your time.

I would suggest posting it during normal business hours tomorrow, perhaps mid-morning on the right coast (as opposed to the left coast).

Email the editors of Jalopnik directly after you post it. If they like it, they'll run it.

Here's my thoughts on EVs: There's nothing that speaks against them as daily drivers, at least as soon as autonomous driving is a thing. If I'm being driven to work automatically and sit in the back, reading a paper or (more likely) playing on my phone, I couldn't care less what propels the car. Nobody would in fact care. And autonomous cars would erase the need for a charging station right at your home - the car could drive itself to a remote highspeed charger, fill the battery and return. You'd get a 97% charged battery without having to deal with actual charging.

Yeah, this or Twitter is a quick way to reach them.

If those don't work, the best Oppo posts tend to be shared on Oppositeblog as well, which I know the Jalopnik editors pick from too.

I think a lot of people would agree with you on that. I won't go into it here, because that's what the op-ed is doing, but I not only see an EV as a potentially rewarding enthusiast machine that might at most rival an ICE car, but that electric might even offer something new and better.

Not that I'm not sad to see gas go... I'm teaching myself how to rebuild an engine right as we speak, and I'll be watching F1 all year and wishing they were running V12's instead of pidly quiet turbo 6's.

I don't know about everyone. But, I am for E Cars.

Having built 2, I think I have a decent grasp on the things. Now, mine were lead acid powered and not the luxurious LI battery, they still performed well and the 2nd car way exceeded the performance of the first. They will always have a place in the car lovers portfolio. The gas engined car will not be upstaged by electric for the foreseeable future. They should be able to exist side-by-side in any gearheads portfolio.

I to am working on a longer op-ed and have the same questions.

Also, I drive an EV every day. It is a 2012 Nissan Leaf and I love it. I also own an '87 911 and a '78 Fiat Spider and have owned many cars in the past including a '66 K-Code Mustang, a '72 Pantera and a couple of Mercedes SLs. Let me know if you have any specific questions you would like to ask of a petrol head EV driver.

Looks like you've already got great advice here. Hope the best for your post. If you're putting a good deal of research into it and you are going to cover some electric motorsports related topics, we'd love to have you on the show to talk about it. Of course, we'd pimp your kinja page on the show as well.

1. Make sure the topic is good.

2. Make sure you have a point that you can support.

3. Support your point with logic, humor, and authority.

4. Make the headline strong - catchy but not too click-baity.

5. Get a catchy photo for the header.

6. The intro paragraph should grab readers and tell them what the piece is about.

7. DELIVER on the promise of the headline and the first paragraph.

8. If it feels too long, edit and edit and edit until it is shorter.

9. Post it midday, M-F and tell everyone about it (FBook, Tweet, and so on).

Good luck.
